Gender

This project delves into something that is very personal to me, as someone who identifies as genderqueer. I often find myself in a state of ambiguity when it comes to what my gender identity "is," and how I'm comfortable expressing it. At times, I find myself almost apathetic towards gender itself, knowing that it is partly self-made and a social construct designed to fit us into boxes. Humans as a species have the desire to categorize and label everything, including people, and then sort those categories into what is the "norm," based on what the majority feels to be "normal" to them. With this project, I wanted to explore items that I don't have a particular association with in relation to gender, sex, and presentation. As well as, taking a look at people in my life who also struggle to identify where they fall in the spectrum between masculine, and feminine, and what that means for who they are.
